My So-Called Afterlife Rebooted!

They say you never forget your first pet, your first job, your first love. For authors, there’s another first we hold close to our hearts – our first book. And far be it from me to buck the trend – whenever I do school visits and someone asks which of my books is my favourite, I’m always tempted to say My So-Called Afterlife. I don’t, of course, because all the other books are listening, but still…

I wrote it one summer and it was the easiest story I’ve ever told. My main character, Lucy Shaw, presented herself to me and demanded I tell the story of how she came to be stuck in the men’s toilets on Carnaby Street, invisible and ignored. When it was published, I was as happy as a strawberry in cream but all good things come to an end and My So-Called Afterlife sadly went out of print in 2013, the only one of the Afterlife trilogy to do so.

Luckily, I’d dabbled in self-publishing an adult novella so I knew it was pretty easy. I decided with my agent that we would get the rights back, re-jacket and REBOOT. So that’s exactly what we did. In just a few days, the shiny new version of My So-Called Afterlife will be available on Kindle to download, at the bargain price of £1.99. Soon after, there will be a print version (but I need a bit of time to get my head around Createspace and time is something I don’t exactly have in abundance). And there will be some fabulous guests posts here to go with the new version. But in the meantime, I am delighted to present to you the brand new look for My So-Called Afterlife

As you’ll see, it’s quite a departure from the previous covers, which I love dearly but couldn’t keep. So I asked Design For Writers to come up with a new look and they did an amazing job. It’s time for a new a new chapter with Lucy. I hope you like the new look? Which do you prefer?
